The Fear of Letting Go

Days pass,
Seconds morphed,
Months hatching from cocoons,
Woven from minutes, dwarfed.
Offered endless boons,
To hold time in place.

Silky thread attached to tissue,
Skin desperately altering its hue,
Ripping the bounds of fate,
Wrapped in shining breastplate.

Hidden in the sands of time,
Chameleon in plain sight,
Countless masks in hand,
Afraid to be exposed to light.

Always foolishly running,
Inevitability never far behind,
Might you be all so cunning,
Turned yourself colorblind.

Seeking the fountain of youth,
Never to have to confront truth,
Death always looming close,
Like a murder of sky bound crows.

Longing for the merciless end,
Longing for the everlasting black,
Forced into a swift dead-end,
Thrown into vivid flashback.

Nectar flowing in brittle veins,
Injected to combat chains,
Anchored to a bleeding heart,
So it never may depart.

Needle still towering above,
The crevices made to part,
The pain, the toxic love,
In the name of my black heart.
