Fading Waves New Shores

Can you still hear me?

Can you still see me?

The somber waves rising with the tides, breaking, crashing onto the jagged cliffs.
Nowhere safe along the shore tonight.
The rain and memories, an all consuming vortex drowning even the fragile starlight beneath.
The wind roaring alongside thunder in this ruinous storm,
The mist rising coating the cataclysm in a lovely dread blanket.

Darling tell me, where are you?
Are you hiding in caves? Hiding from the hurricane?
Are you drinking afternoon tea with the creatures of the deep?

Lightning crackling, tearing through body and soul.
Ripping minds to shreds,
Until there is only despair left to keep you alive.

Tell me is there a blue sky above the onyx clouds.
Can we ever soar through the skies like we used to,
Or was this all fiction in my head.

Were we ever happy as we could be,
Were we ever alone in the ticks and tocks of time, together.
Just us dancing through the moonlit meadows of our hearts or was this forgery of my wits.

Tell me is there a future, was there ever?
Were we just trying to evade the inevitable, trying to dodge reality.

Fabricate a life worth living,
Was this what we were doing while our souls were twisting in agony.
Unable to let go, unable send the past on its way.

Tell me should we have taken separate ships through this storm?

Will this be our end or our beginning.

Tell me darling because I can’t see the ocean for the shore anymore and all I know is that I’m drowning.
